We're all blessed with a wonderful imagination. We were created therefore creativity is inside us all. We just express it differently. Art speaks a thousand words but it's the emotions it evokes when we look at it that's most important. As an artist, that's quite a responsibility.
Commissions are the children of ideas. When you commission a piece of art, you're sharing your ideas with me so that I can translate them onto paper. It's a client/artist partnership which means you're part of the creative process too. You're challenging me to create something unique in my own style with a very specific purpose in mind. How exciting is that?!
Maybe you don't have a specific idea in mind. That's ok. You'll know who its for, where its likely to go and how you want the receiver to feel when they look at it - that's a great place to start. I'm here to help from initial consultation keeping you up to date right through to completion of the final piece. It's one of my favourite things to do!
Are you ready to get creative with me? For more information, just send me a brief description of what you have in mind. I can't wait to get started on making your ideas a reality.
I knew you would capture what I wanted with just a few words. You kept me informed of progress at each step to make sure it was developing into what I wanted. When I received it, goodness me!!! Exceeded all my expectations. I absolutely love it!!!

Do you have any specific subjects of expertise?
Many artists specialize is a specific area such as landscapes, abstract paintings, portraits, botanicals etc. As you can see from my examples of recent commissions completed, my style and subject area is wide and varied - I love the challenge of trying to interpret what a client is thinking combined with my own style to create the final unique piece. During the initial consultation it is rare but if for any reason I think that I will not be able to create what it is you are looking for, I will say so.
How and what takes place in the initial consultation?
It is really important for me to fully understand what it is you have in mind and then together agree the concept of what I will produce for you. Often this is possible via email/social media private messaging but if you would prefer to chat it through face to face, this can be done via Whatsapp or Skype too. I will be able to answer any questions you have and aim to keep you up to date with progress once I make a start.
What materials do you use?
I use a minimum of 300gsm/140lb or heavier pressed acid-free cotton of museum quality from the leading makers such as Saunders Waterford (St Cuthberts Mill), Arches and Fabriano. Combined with the highest grade of pigment paints such as Daniel Smith, Schmincke, Winsor & Newton and Art Philosophy, the painting is archival and should outlive us all if cared for correctly
How do you calculate the price?
Each commission is unique and therefore, I calculate as best as possible the likely time it will take to create it and the cost of materials used for production.
How long does a commissioned piece take to produce?
This also depends on the complexity of the piece but on average, a medium sized piece of around 11 x 14 inches can take between 8 to 14 hours to produce.
How long do I need to allow for production and then shipping?
Often I have several commissions on the go but I will always to my very best to reach specific target dates if the painting is for a gift or special occasion. As a guide, try to allow at least 2-3wks for production. When you contact me initially with your request, I will provide a price along with an estimated timescale as to when it will be ready to be shipped.
What are the shipping timescales?
The paintings are shipped from here in Spain by recorded delivery which means you will need to sign for it when it arrives. A guide based on where it is being shipped is as follows:
How are the portraits shipped?
All paintings up to A3 size are shipped flat in protective cellophane sleeves with backing boards and additional card for support. I try to ship large pieces flat too but it will depend on the materials used, shipping restrictions and available packaging. In all cases, I search to find the most secure in terms of protecting your commission so that it reaches you in the best condition. Commissions complete with a certificate of authenticity with a unique number, details of the materials used, date completed and are personally signed by me. The portraits are also lightly signed discreetly on the front.
What are the shipping costs?
All originals up to A3 size are shipped to you free of charge - prices for specialist shipping for larger pieces can be provided on request
What do I need to do next if I want to enquire about my own unique commission?
It's simple - just complete the contact section above or anywhere on the website explaining what it is you would ideally like me to create, the timescale in which I have to create it for you (including time to safely ship it to you) and most importantly, some quality photos of the subject. I can also be contacted via my social media sites (@pocolocostudios on Facebook, Instagram - private message services) or by email at info@pocolocostudios.com
As soon as we have agreed what it is that you would ideally like and agreed how to proceed with your commissioned piece, I will make an initial drawing which I will share with you. At this point, 50% of the total cost is payable. The remainder is due once the painting is complete and a photo has been sent to you for approval before shipping. I use Paypal but if you do not use this method, we can agree an alternative such as bank transfer or I am happy to add it as a special commission piece on my Etsy shop for you to use their secure payment system.
